SaaS or Software-as-a-Service Applications (“SaaS Apps” or “Cloud Apps” or “software on demand,”) are business applications deployed over the internet in the “Cloud” and are run through your browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or other browser application.
The term SaaS App is typically used when referring to business software. An Independent Software Vendor (“ISV” or “App Vendor”) licenses its SaaS App to customers either as a service on demand, through a subscription, or at no charge. Typical advantages to the adoption of SaaS Apps include: pay as you go licensing; anytime, anywhere accessibility (because the data is stored in the SaaS apps web-based servers instead of yours); instant scalability; security; reliability; seamless version updates; and reduced need for internally owned and/or managed data servers. SaaS Apps are mostly owned and operated by Independent Software Vendors. The most frequently recognized business SaaS Apps are Salesforce.com, NetSuite.com, QuickBooks Online and Google Apps.
